After a sunrise bike ride it was looking good for another windsurfing session!!! At midday with the Landguard weather station showing 20 kts it was time to load the car and head to The Dip, as the wind was supposed to be fairly light I only took the 133 and 7.8!!! It wasn’t an ideal time to go down as I would be sailing right through high water, which means not much beach and lumpy water:( I was the only one there to start with so rigged and went out, the sail was OK but the sea was a bit of a mess especially out beyond the red and white bouy. I played in front of kite beach and was joined by a couple of other sailers including Steve Carter out on 6.9 and 115. Although not silly over powered I had more sail than required in the big sea so came ashore had my sandwich and decided to head home to get my 6.5 as Mark Swain had arrived and was going well with 6.6. When I returned the tide had turned and the sea had calmed down a little and the wind eased a fraction so I contined with the big sail. This was the best time with a nice patch of water by the River Deben entrance with some interesting swells, I had to keep coming ashore to warm my hands up as it’s still very chilly even in the bright sunshine. I had a nice chat with Mark by which time the wind had dropped and the sea flattened, Mark struggled to get going with the 6.6 but I managed to get planning with the bigger sail, but the sea out was now a real mess – time to call it a day – so far Aprils been a top month for windsurfing – even if cool !
